Opioid Management

Long Term Opioid Management for Chronic Pain

At the Institute of Interventional Pain Management, we specialize in long-term opioid management for chronic painful conditions. Our comprehensive approach ensures that we follow all federal and state laws in our opioid management policies, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.

Our Commitment to Safety

We offer a range of deterrents to prevent opioid abuse or diversion, including:

  • Pain Contracts: All patients are required to sign a pain contract, outlining the terms of opioid use and the responsibilities of both the patient and the clinic.
  • Prescription Monitoring: We are signatories to the Arkansas Prescription Monitoring Program, ensuring that we monitor and control opioid prescriptions effectively.
  • Pill Counts: At every office visit, we perform pill counts to verify that patients are taking their medications as prescribed.
  • Urine Drug Screen Monitoring: We conduct random or scheduled urine drug screens to prevent opioid diversion, abuse, or unhealthy practices such as combining opioids with alcohol or other illicit substances.

Addressing the Opioid Epidemic

The opioid epidemic in the USA has been a significant public health crisis since the late 1990s, characterized by a dramatic increase in opioid misuse, addiction, and overdose deaths. This crisis has had devastating health, economic, and social impacts, leading to stricter prescription guidelines, enhanced monitoring, and expanded access to addiction treatment.

Why We Enforce Strict Opioid Contract Policies

Our strict opioid contract policies are in place to:

  • Prevent Abuse and Diversion: By enforcing these policies, we aim to prevent the misuse and diversion of opioids, which can lead to addiction and overdose.
  • Ensure Patient Safety: Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of our patients by closely monitoring their opioid use and providing appropriate care.
  • Promote Responsible Use: We educate our patients on the responsible use of opioids and the potential risks associated with their misuse.

Our Approach to Helping Patients with Chronic Pain

We are dedicated to helping patients with chronic pain by offering long-term opioid management. Our team of experts works closely with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that address their unique needs and ensure the safe and effective use of opioids.

Following CDC Guidelines

We adhere to the CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain. This guideline helps us make informed, patient-centered decisions about pain care, improving the safety and effectiveness of pain treatment while mitigating the risks associated with opioid therapy.
